VISIT OUR LOCAL COLLECTION YARD

We visited the local collection yard in Plana on 8th March 2017. Our guides were Mr. Ing. Stanislav Vyhnal and Mrs. Ing. Svatava Novotna. At the beginning of our route the city representatives showed us the individual containers, they tell us the number of containers that the city has got and some places where they are located. We learned the financial costs of the city during the liquidation of illegal dumps. All waste is collected and sorted here and than transported to Želeč or Tyn nad Vltavou. The whole area is under the administration of the city and everyone can visit it with any waste in the opening period. Here we can find all waste, from the branches to the oil or electronics.
Sort waste, it makes sense!

LIVE PLAYFULLY YOUR HEALTHY LIFE

From the beginning of this school year unill January pupils from grades 5 took part in the whole country´s e-learning course called Hravě žij zdravě concerning healthy lifestyle. Children were studying 5 lessons dealing with this issue and they also used a personal diary to note down everything importatnt for them. They went through lessons on eating and drinking habits, how to buy food, how to reduce wasting their food. In every lesson children performed tasks and they did a final test to revise what they learnt.

Most of the pupils enjoyed this kind of learning as it brought them a lot of information in a very friendly and personal way.

HONEY BREAKFAST

During last school year we dealt with healthy breakfast and its importance for our well-being. It had rather a big impact on our pupils that we decided to carry on with this activity. In November 2016 we organized again a campaign called Honey Breakfast. Our youngest pupils met an expert in beekeeping who gave them all the necessarry information about honey production and its influence on our health.

Children not only learnt about honey but also tasted it with fresh bread.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

On Wednesday 7th September classes 7A and 7B attended a meeting with an expert for healthy lifestale. The aim of this activity was to summarize what we know about this issue and learn some more facts.

We found out how many sugar cubes are in various soft drinks. We realized what belongs to healthy life - actually it is a life journey. Finally we had some time to think about ourselves and there are our resulutions:

1. I´d like to stop eating sweets.

2. I should get used to having breakfast.

3. I will do my best to reduce drinking sparkling sweet drinks.

4, I´d like to eat more fruit and vegetables.

5. It is nice to have enough night sleep.

6. I will try to have more physical movement and less time with my computer.

All the pupils seemed very determined to change their lives a bit. We hope they will manage to reach their aims, or at least start thinking about themselves.

EVEN SENIORS LIKE TO SHARE

Pupils from class 8 have prepared some presentations about eating habits of our grandparents. Some of the pupils made an interview with their grannies and some of them visited Planá´s senior house. In the following lines you can read their summary. And watch their presentations.
SUMMARY
We have found that average number of person in family was 5. Family could eat meat only on Sunday so on other days they were cooking meatless food. When family was living in a village they were growing and planting everything for themselves. In the past the families didin´t have a lot of fruit. Now we have many kinds of fruit but it has not that much quality as that fruit some decades ago. Bread was much better than bread today.
Lot of food was on allocation. In the past they didn´t need chemicals against plant infection because there was not any plant infection then. Some years ago there was not lot of milk products, for example: ice-cream. Daily allocation of milk for adult was 800 ml and for children 1l.

A SHORT SUMMARY FROM OUR INTERVIEWS

Some pupils in our school interviewed their grandparents about food and eating.
They asked these questions:
1.a) What did you eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner?
b) Did you eat between meals?
2. Is it now any meal or foodstuff which was not when you were in my age?
3. Was some meal or foodstuff what you donť eat today or today is not available ?
4. How it was with availability of all foodstuff?

What they found out is:
  • As for availability of food it was limited. Our grannies had limited amount and choice of food.
  • They had only Czech fruits or vegetables, they had to queue and they could have only 0,5 kg per one person.
  • When our grandparents were in our age, they didn´t have hamburgers, limes, chips, peppers, cucumber, tomatoes.
  • For breakfast they usually had bread with butter and coffee from melts.
  • For lunch they had meal from the school.
  • For dinner they had what was at home.
  • Meals what our grannies had when they were younger are:
    švesťáky (plum buns)
sypánky
bramboračka (soup with potatoes and mashrooms)
šuměnky (fizzy powder to make some drink)
  • They loved cheese which was made in the past, it can´t be compared with cheese or milk which is now.
  • They had lot of thing for eating what we have now, but we can´t compare it, because it´s completely different quality.
  • They didn´t eat between the meals, and if yes it was just old, yesterday bread.

CHILDREN INTERVIEWED THEIR ELDERS.

THEY COMPARED FORMER FOOD AND CURRENT ONE.

Class 1A and Hana Hribová
Grandma, grandpa, what did you have for snack?
Rozhuda, pancakes, kosmatice, caraway seeds soup, shumplaty, shuska, semlgranny or black cube with slippery ice … such were the answers of our grannies - Mrs Springerová and Mrs Machoňová to a question What did you eat as a child? These two ladies were invited to our class 1A within our Erasmus+ project to remember back their school years and to answer our questions. They brought hand made aprons, placemats and various dishes and crockery used in kitchens in the past. Mrs Machoňová together with children prepared curd spread which the children made themselves, spread on bread and tasted. It was really delicious! Mrs Springer baked black cube with slippery ice, we went through her 70 year old cookery-book and on top of everything at the end of our meeting she read a fairytale from a book for us. We really enjoyed their talking.

Class 4B

What we´ve discovered

1. The most interesting finding was that our parents and grandparents very rarely had tropical fruit. And if there was some, people had to stand in long queues to buy some.

2. We learnt from our grandparents that food was much healthier because most of it was produced at home, in small fields or gardens (self production). Unlike todays food which is full of chemicals.

3. Our grandmas and grandpas didn´t have some of our today´s meals or drinks like bubble tea, energy drinks, chips, pizza, mojito, these which we love.

4. Some meals remain and we enjoy them the same as our grandparents did. These are schnitzel, sirloin souce, goulash, griddlecakes.

Some of the pupils managed to make a short presentation. Though in Czech, still understandable.

ACTIVITY IN CLASS 4B

The aim of this activity was to taste without seeing what we are tasting. Apart from deciding what they just had in their mouths, kids classified weather the food is healthy and unhealthy .

CLASS 5A - WHAT CAN FOOD MAKE WITH US? IN PLANÁ NAD LUŽNICÍ, FEBRUARY 2016

What food can make from us is mainly obvious on the fact what we look like. This is what some of our pupils focused on when they disscussed the topic of healthy eating. You can have a look at the results. What do you look like? Are you a healthy or unhealthy eater?

CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL LABS IN PLANÁ NAD LUŽNICÍ, 8 MARCH, 2016

In the second week of March sixth graders used their gained knowledge in Science Centre Techmania to teach their younger mates something about healthy food. They prepared several little workshops and children from second grades learned, tested, experimented or did a short survey.

They were invited by signs for a certain
lab. This one is the chemical lab.
First, children found out what pH is and
what acidity or basicity can do to our body,
especially teeth and digestion.
After they learnt something theoretical, it was
obvious they had to do some real testing. They
used special stripes to carry out the measuring.
They found out that though some drinks are sweet,
surprisingly they are very acid and can do some harm to our body.

Older pupils prepared some presentation to
share their knowledge they gained in a science centre.
We all know what happens to our teeth when we do not take enough care to them.
The most attractive part was the real experimenting and doing things. Here they are proving some elements in our food - vitamins or proteins. They felt very proud of being real scientists.
Finally, they learnt about food additives through a nice interactive presentation done by pupils. FOOD ADDITIVES

HEALTHY SNACK PREPARED BY PUPILS, 8 MARCH IN PLANÁ
